What is Art? When someone asks you that question, you might think of a beautiful painting hanging on the wall in a museum. Or you might remember a statue you saw in the park. Maybe you think of something you made out of colored paper or clay in art class. All these things are art. Crafts, paintings, and sculptures that people make for others to look at are called visual arts. But they are not the only kind of art. When you sing or play an instrument to create music, that is also art. So is the puppet show you put on for your parents, and so is the play at the theater. These kinds of art are called performing arts.

So, art is something people make or do for others to enjoy. It is art because it gets people to use their imagination, both to create it and to enjoy it.
